FRIGHTFEST 2024 PREVIEW: CHARLOTTE
Making its world premiere at FrightFest 2024 as part of the Discovery Programming, Georgia Conlan's Charlotte was picked as one of the five most terrifying films to see at this year’s festival by FrightFest director and critic Alan Jones.
After running away from home, Charlotte seeks shelter from her abusive father. Seeking help, she finds solace with Roy, a seemingly compassionate stranger. After inviting her into his home, he provides a safe space for her to settle and gives her the immediate protection she desires. As the relationship between them develops, Roy's mysterious past catches up with him, raising urgent questions about Charlotte's safety. This drama explores themes of trust, danger and makes the audience wonder if Charlotte was actually safer staying at home.
Director Georgia Conlan told Horror DNA:
I am so thrilled that Charlotte has been selected for the 25th anniversary of Frightfest. Charlotte is a dark drama that follows a young, vulnerable girl who is seeking an escape from her home life. Making this film has been such a long journey and it feels so great to finally be at the stage where people can see what we have done. Charlotte is my debut feature and to be selected alongside really inspiring filmmakers is extremely exciting. We are all really looking forward to the festival and to be sharing Charlotte with an audience.
